Canon Pixma MG8120 Wireless Photo All-In-One Printer
30.08.10
The Canon Pixma MG8120 Wireless Photo All-in-One Printer ($299.99 direct) is the latest incarnation of what amounts to Canon's top-of-the-line home photo lab. That's a shorthand way of saying that this inkjet MFP can print photos at high enough quality and from so many different sourcesfrom strips of film to video frames from select camerasthat you can justify buying it for printing photos even if you never connect it to a computer. Like the Canon Pixma MP990 Wireless Photo All-In-One Printer ($199.99 direct, ) that it replaces, it's the best of its breed, and an easy pick for Editors' Choice.
The MG8120 doesn't have much direct competition, because few MFPs can scan or print from slides and film negatives. Indeed, other inkjet MFPs that cost the same or more, like the Lexmark Platinum Pro905 ($399.99 direct, ) that I reviewed last year, tend to focus on office features. In contrast, as you might expect in a printer that you can describe as a photo lab, the MG8120 is distinctly lacking in those features. In particular, there's no automatic document feeder, no way to scan legal-size pages, and no fax modem.
