I am currently using a homemade waveguide cantenna with a usb dongle inside. I have heard that I might be able to get an even stronger signal with a yagi style antenna (the ones with all those parallel elements, placed in the boon.
Well I've searched for hours, and just can't find enough information for a beginner like me to make one of these. I'd like to make it work in conjunction with a usb dongle.
In particular the most important things I'm looking for is what materials can be used for the elements, and other parts. How long they should each be, and how far spaced apart. And also where on the unit to position the USB dongle. Can anyone help?
Yagi style antennas are tricky for beginners... and if you get it wrong you will actually decrease your signal.... I'd recommend against trying to build one....

Cuanodo me decidí a instalar una antenna Yagi mi primer obstaculo era el traer un cable tan largo al router dentro de mi casa. Esto crearía un bajo de señal grandemente. Pero con un poquito de busqueda aprendí a que podemos poner el router al lado de la antenna Yagi y de esa manera no tendriamos el bajón de señal. El problema ahora era como proteger mi router con tanta lluvia aqui en Fajardo, PR donde estoy cerca del Yunque??? Bueno, pues me fui a la ferreteria local y una caja de PVC para artefactos donde cubiese mi router con su cable de antenna, cable Ethernet RJ45 para programación del router y la extención electrica para darle corriente al router. La caja ideal era casi $60. Entoces me puse a analizar y decidí que podia cojer una caja de carton y usarla como molde y cubrirla con fibra de vidreo pero eso me salia en unos $25 y el trabajo de bregar con fiberglass. En el internet habia visto un setup igual al que yo queria hacer y la persona que lo posteó usó una caja plastica de Topperware o algo parecido. Pues me fui a Walmarts y Kmart y lo major que vi fue un jarro de jugo plastic que era mas fuerte que estas cajas plasticas. Tampoco me gusto. Bueno, pues me fui a Petboys y vi cajas de baterias de auto pero las encontré demasiado grandes para estar en un poste alto. Segui buscando hasta que (Bingo!!!) encontré lo que se usa para vaciar el aceite Viejo del motor del auto. Pero eran grandes y muy planas. Pero esta era la major opcion. Decidí ir a Western Auto a ver que tenian en lo que se llama Oil Drain Pan que es lo de vaciar el aceite del motor. Pues caramba, encotré uno por $6 pequeñito y perfecto para mi router. Por el roto de drenaje es por donde corrí mi cable electrico. Bueno, aqui les dejo las fotos del invento. Un tubo de verja de 2” por 20’ por $19.95 y una extencion vieja.
